Five Stars We recently completed a one-week charter aboard Apricity in the British Virgin Islands, and, due to the incredible service of the Captain and Chef, it stands among the best travel experiences of our lives. Captain Rodrigo and Chef Alys bring a level of professionalism, skill, and genuine hospitality that is immediately apparent — and that set the tone for an exceptional week from the first morning to the last. Both Rodrigo and Alys come with superyacht backgrounds, and that pedigree shows in everything they do. The standards they hold themselves to, the seamlessness of the operation, and the quality of every interaction reflect training and experience well beyond what one typically encounters on a private charter. What made this particularly striking is that Apricity was among the less expensive boats in our flotilla of five vessels — yet it was, without question, the standout in terms of crew, cuisine, and overall experience. Captain Rodrigo Rodrigo is precisely the captain one hopes for. Warm and personable without ever losing his professionalism, he is exceptionally competent at the helm and navigated the BVIs with confidence and precision. He was consistently present, engaged, and quietly proactive — anticipating needs, improving the experience in ways we had not thought to request, and always available when something arose. The clearest illustration of his character came mid-trip, when the air conditioning in one cabin failed on our first night. Rather than offering apologies and temporary workarounds, Rodrigo arranged for a qualified technician to meet the boat at a remote anchorage while we were ashore enjoying an activity. We returned to a fully resolved problem. The system functioned flawlessly for the remainder of the week. That kind of calm, efficient, guest-first problem solving is a hallmark of true professionalism — and Rodrigo exemplifies it. He was awake and prepared each morning well before we stirred, typically by 6:00 to 6:30 AM, ready to begin the day with the same energy and attentiveness he brought to every hour of the charter. Chef Alys Alys is a remarkable talent. The cuisine she produced from a compact galley kitchen was consistently inventive, beautifully composed, and genuinely sublime. Her attention to detail — in flavor development, timing, and presentation — rivaled what one would expect from a serious restaurant ashore. Guests on neighboring boats took notice, and the contrast in what was being served across the flotilla was not subtle. Of particular importance to our group: my wife maintains a gluten-free diet. Alys managed this not merely with accommodation, but with creativity and care. She always had thoughtful, well-crafted gluten-free options available — and on more than one occasion, those dishes were frankly more delicious than what the rest of us were eating. For any charter guest with dietary restrictions, this level of attentiveness is invaluable. Alys, like Rodrigo, was up and ready before the rest of us each morning — coffee prepared, snacks available, and the boat immaculate. Apricity was spotless throughout the entire week, stem to stern, every single day. The standard of cleanliness and upkeep reflected exactly the superyacht background she brings to the role.
